3D Type class receives Gold Award by Graphis New Talent Annual

Student work from Typography III, a course that explores three-dimensional typography was recognized in the 2019 Graphis New Talent Annual. Entitled Topographic Typography, the project produced in the class taught by Professor Amir Berbić received the Gold Award in the Type Design category.

This project engages the study of 3D type through exploration of relief conditions with letterforms. Starting with 2D characters cropped within a square format students manipulate form-counterform / height-depth relationships to achieve three-dimensionality. The project examines how digital fabrication can expand the way graphic designers engage the physical act of making and looks at new typographic forms that emerge in the process. The collection of individual models designed and fabricated by students in class forms a full three-dimensional alphabet set.

Its New Talent Annual publication features award-winning student work coming out of art and design programs from across the world.
