Amir Berbić to present at World Design Congress in Montreal

Amir Berbić, Associate Professor and chair of Graphic Design will present at the World Design Congress, taking place on October 16–20, 2017, in Montreal, Canada.

Amir’s presentation, Identity for a Refugee Camp: Design as Agent for Resilience examines the role design can have in enabling vulnerable populations to assert a form to their identifying image, make sense of extreme circumstances, contest subjection, and build community. It draws from the his project of reconstructing the visual identity of Sahara, a Bosnian refugee camp in Denmark, which existed in the early 1990s.

Organized to serve as an international incubator for re-thinking the mission of the designer, the World Design Summit and Congress of Architecture + Design + Planning, will be the largest gathering of designers, planners, architects and related stakeholders ever assembled and is the first of its kind. The Congress program will explore 6 major interdisciplinary themes: Design for Earth, Design for Participation, Design for Transformation, Design for Beauty, Design for Sale, Design for Extremes. All sessions are designed to be intersectional, encouraging the sharing of knowledge between disciplines.
