Daria Tsoupikova presents at SIGGRAPH Asia VR Showcase

Associate Professor Daria Tsoupikova presents the Oculus Rift version of the first virtual reality CAVE2TM art performance entitled Hearts and Minds: The Interrogations Project at the SIGGRAPH ASIA 2016 VR Showcase in Macao, China December 5–8, 2016.

SIGGRAPH Asia is Asia's largest annual event in computer graphics and interactive techniques. Its first VR Showcase presents new design, technologies, concepts and applications in virtual reality, offering exciting opportunities for the public to delve deep into digital worlds, try state-of-the-art technologies, and experience new approaches for creative expression and collaboration within immersive environments.

Hearts and Minds: The Interrogations Project is a virtual reality human rights artwork based on veteran testimonies of US military enhanced interrogation practices and human rights abuses during the Iraq War. This work uses VR technology to immerse participants in the minds of people who experienced torture and interrogation during the war to understand its current social and psychological consequences. This work was developed at the Electronic Visualization Lab in Chicago through a unique cross-disciplinary international collaboration between artists, scientists, and researchers from five different Universities.
