Newcity features three UIC faculty in Designed Objects issue
Three members of the UIC faculty were featured in the Designed Objects issue of Newcity this week. The magazine asked six prominent Chicago designers to choose one object they had created and reflect on what is says about their practice.
Design faculty Felicia Ferrone discussed the tension of line and surface through positive/negative and geometric/organic forms in her Ahn bar. Norman Teague presented his Sinmi stool and the element of surprise when experiencing the American rocking chair elevated to a stool height. Architecture faculty Thomas Kelley chose The Wrong Chairs collection and explained his interest in revealing “latent value in forgettable objects” and in exploring the “cultural implications of “error” as a means and a medium for creating new audiences”.
