Sharon Oiga receives UIC Silver Circle Award
Sharon Oiga, Associate Professor of Graphic Design is to be presented with a UIC Silver Circle Award during commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 9.
Since 1966, the Silver Circle Award has been presented to some of UIC’s most outstanding teachers. The award is especially meangingful to faculy as its selection committee is our students. Each year graduating seniors submit nominations and particpate in a campuswide vote.
An example of our success, Sharon Oiga is a graduate of the program in which she now teaches. She recieved a BFA in Graphic Design in 1996 from what was then the UIC School of Art and Design. She went on the receive an MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University and was hired as the result of an international search to join the UIC Design faculty in 2007.
Oiga's area of creative research is experimental typography. She currently sits on the board of the Society of Typographic Aficionados (SoTA) and is develping programming for Society of Typographic Arts (STA) and the TypeCon, the annual conference of SoTA.
