Norman Teague, A Love Supreme Exhibition

Norman Teague, Assistant Professor of Industrial Design, recently opened his two-part solo exhibition A Love Supreme, using legendary jazz musician John Coltrane as a personal, cultural, and spiritual touchstone to consider design influences from his lifelong home in Chicago.

On display at the Elmhurst Art Museum, Norman’s work explores the power of bold improvisational jazz and unapologetic Black aesthetics, and how it has expanded the minds and inspired creative communities of color. In the exhibit in the McCormick House, Teague poses the question: “What is your Coltrane story? Who awakened you personally and artistically?” Teague’s work in the McCormick House is featured amongst other BIPOC architects, designers, and artists, including School of Design MDes Graphic Design alum Oluwaseyi Adeleke. The work featured includes furniture, blown glass, and custom leather pieces. The space also acknowledges overlooked historical figures from Chicago, reimagined through an alternative lens.

A Love Supreme is on display at the Elmhurst Art Museum and the McCormick House until April 28th. Congrats Norman!
