2021 Public Seminar Series: Ani Liu
Ani Liu is an internationally exhibiting research-based artist working at the intersection of art and science. She runs Ani Liu studio in New York City.
Her work examines the reciprocal relationships between science and technology and their influence on human subjectivity, culture, and identity. Reoccurring themes in her work include gender politics, biopolitics, labor, simulation, and sexuality.
Ani was trained at the MIT Media Lab; she holds a Masters of Architecture from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and a BA from Dartmouth College. Ani has taught at Harvard and currently teaches at Princeton. Her work has been presented at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Asian Art Museum, the MIT Museum, the MIT Media Lab, the MIT Wiesner Gallery, Harvard University, and media channels such as VICE, Gizmodo, National Geographic, TED, FOX, and WIRED.
Flour, Salt, Water is the 2021 public seminar series developed by the UIC School of Design MDes graduate students. The series grapples with the reactionary paradigm shift in social norms due to the global pandemic.
The UIC School of Design public seminar series serves as a research platform for the school's MDES program, stimulating broad intellectual inquiry about the values guiding the designer by promoting discourse across industrial and graphic design.
